Our Story
At Crazy Creek Outfitters, we pride ourselves on offering unparalleled fair chase public land hunting in Montana’s stunning Bitterroot National Forest. Outfitter Matt Turner and his experienced guides have all worked together for years. They bring a combined knowledge and love for nature, wildlife, the art of hunting and freedom to their clients, setting the stage for a great hunting experience in Montana.
At the helm of the operation is owner and outfitter Matt Turner. Born and raised on a farm and ranch in northcentral Montana, Matt developed a deep love for both land and wildlife. His upbringing in agriculture taught him a strong work ethic, as well as responsibility and integrity. From a young age, Matt spent countless hours stalking game in Montana’s beautiful Sweetgrass Hills, with his sights set on whitetail deer mule deer, elk and fishing. His winter hobbies included predator calling and trapping furbearers.
At 15, Matt packed his first camp into the Great Bear Wilderness, igniting a passion for exploring Montana’s public lands, from national forests to wilderness areas. After high school, he dove directly into outfitting, gaining experience with numerous outfitters in the Bob Marshal Wilderness Complex, which includes The Bob, Scapegoat and Great Bear wilderness areas. Matt honed his skills as a successful packer, guide and cook, later working as a long-string packer for the U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service in Glacier National Park.
In 2020, Matt ventured into the Bitterroot Valley and began guiding for Rick Wemple. Taking what Rick taught him over the next four years and applying hard work, his 25 years of experience, dedication and love for outfitting. Matt purchased Rick’s permit and it is now Crazy Creek Outfitters.
Our Mission
At Crazy Creek Outfitters, we believe that hunting is more than collecting a trophy. We respect the resource and the duty to take care of it for the next generation of outdoorsmen. Rooted in Montana, we strive to spread the knowledge we have on how to ethically hunt and harvest an animal, as well as our appreciation for the land. It’s an honor to share this experience with our clients in one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Our Experience
Crazy Creek Outfitters offers some of the best fair chase hunting opportunities on Montana’s public lands. We are permitted to hunt over 1 million acres of federal and state forests in Montana, ensuring we can find game, reduce competition with other hunters and give you the best opportunity possible to fill your big game tags.
If you don’t harvest an animal on a hunt with Crazy Creek Outfitters, it won’t be because there isn’t a healthy population of game in our vast hunting area. It also won’t be because of a lack of skills or knowledge from our guides. Matt and his team work hard to give you the best possible shot and there are ample opportunities to harvest an animal on a guided hunt here in Montana. As most hunters know, sometimes the success of your hunt comes down to the weather or just plain luck, and those challenges are part of the experience too. After all, that’s what hunting big game — on their terms and in their environment — is all about. If it was easy, we wouldn’t have anything to hunt.
